An alcoholic drink called Blavod, made on the basis of vodka, has a similar 40% strength and an identical taste. Its uniqueness lies in its black color, which is achieved using a dye extracted from Black Catechu acacia. Coloring has absolutely no effect on the taste of black vodka and the color of the tongue, but gives it a special softness. So who is the creator of this unique drink?
Truly English Approach
The know-how was developed by London-based Mark Dorman, who works as a marketing specialist for Extreme Spirits. In 1996, he walked into a bar, where he heard the bartender ask a customer again, which coffee to bring - black or cream? Dorman, who was drinking vodka at this time, was inspired and decided that vodka, dyed black, could make a splash in the world of alcoholic beverages. As a result, the fashionable brand The Original Black Vodka Company was born, which became the number 1 drink in all the largest London establishments.
Today, black vodka can be purchased in twenty-three countries of the world, where it is appreciated for its originality and exclusivity, as well as for its elegant and excellent taste.
Black vodka is drunk both neat and in cocktail form. When mixing Blavod with various drinks, amazing colors are obtained, which made vodka mega popular in bars and nightclubs. So, when you add orange juice to it, the black color will turn into green, and diluting Blavod with ordinary water will give an unusual silver tint. To get a purple-colored drink, black vodka is mixed with cranberry juice.
The popularity of black vodka
Due to its spectacular appearance, Blavod is included in various cocktails - for example, the Midnight Sun drink is made from black vodka and bright ruby cranberry juice. To make the Black Bull cocktail, mix 30 milliliters of Blavod with half a can of Red Bull energy drink and serve the drink in a tall glass with ice. The Black Mister cocktail consists of 30 milliliters of Blavod and 20 milliliters of Apricot Brandy liqueur (a well-known liqueur), and the Black Spider consists of 45 milliliters of Blavod and 15 milliliters of White Creme de Menthe liqueur.
Pour a bar spoon of black vodka on top of chilled Blue Curacao for a trendy Black & Blue cocktail.
Today many countries have invented their own counterparts to English black vodka. The Czech Republic began to produce black vodka called Fruko-Schulz, having come up with the idea of using humic substances for coloring. Italy produces Black Forti vodka made from durum wheat and alcohol.
France, together with Georgia, produces Eristoff black vodka of triple filtration and distillation, using a concentrated extract of wild berries for coloring. This drink is ideal for combination with soda or energy cocktails, as well as for consumption in its pure form.
