Flaring is the art of juggling bottles and other bar equipment. It's a way to entertain bar diners and earn a decent tip. Flaring can be working and demonstrative.
What is flaring?
It is very important to understand that the flaring itself is quite simple, so that it “shoots”, the flairing player must have a special charisma and attractiveness, take the audience with originality and creativity. Too complex and at the same time not well executed tricks in the eyes of the audience are much inferior to simple ones, but performed with brilliance. In flaring, it is quite clean and good to do the simplest elements, but present it in a special, unusual manner, establishing contact with the visitors of the bar.
Flaring is divided into working and demonstrative, the so-called "show flaring". The working version is not only beautiful, but also functional. It features some small bottle, shaker and glass tricks. Most flaring tricks can be performed even with full bottles, since there are no tricky throws in several turns. In working flaring, no one expects special miracles from the bartender, but this process looks great anyway.
Show-flaring was invented to entertain bar-goers. It is in it that there are many complex, spectacular elements. The bottles used for juggling are always almost empty, otherwise difficult tricks are impossible.
How to learn flaring?
There are many bartender schools and courses where you can learn both types of flaring. Basically, of course, there is training in working flaring, as a more practical type. Show flaring courses are usually paid separately. Any lesson begins with a warm-up. The first step for a future flair bartender is to master juggling, since it is precisely this that is the basis of this art.
If you want to learn flaring yourself, be sure to start by juggling with tennis balls or oranges. There are a huge number of video tutorials on this art. After you master juggling with round objects, move on to bottles and glasses. It is advisable to conduct such training in the open air, or at least in a room with very high ceilings. Many famous flair bartenders have invented the self-taught tricks that made them famous.
Be sure to watch flaring competitions, sometimes they are shown on television, but almost always the recordings can be found on YouTube. Try to repeat the tricks you see and invent your own.
