Canned food is very convenient for use in a variety of situations: they do not require special storage conditions, and in order to eat the contents of a jar, it is enough to have a device for opening it and a spoon or fork - no other devices are required for this. That is why canned food is so popular among people who go on a trip, fishing or other places that are characterized by the absence of the usual amenities.

Canned food

Canned food is a specially processed and packaged food that, thanks to intensive heat treatment and packaging in metal containers, can be stored both in the refrigerator and at room temperature for a long time.

Currently, a wide variety of products are subjected to canning. So, among vegetables, the most popular types of canned food are green peas, sweet corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, carrots and others. A widespread type of canned food is canned fish, and such types of fish as pink salmon, herring, mackerel, silver carp, trout and others are subject to packaging in jars. In addition, other types of seafood such as squid and seaweed are also canned. Finally, various meats such as chicken, beef and pork are canned on store shelves. At the same time, they are packaged in jars both in pure form and with additions in the form of various side dishes - for example, pearl barley, buckwheat, rice groats.

Storage of canned food

The shelf life of canned food, depending on their type, can be up to several years. At the same time, the shelf life indicated by the manufacturer is usually not the period of time during which the guaranteed canned food is edible, but the period of time the guaranteed preservation of the package: it is metal, therefore it is subject to corrosion.

But in the open form, the shelf life of canned food is significantly shorter, and canned vegetables are stored somewhat longer than meat and fish. So, after opening the package, the contents of the tin can only be stored in the refrigerator, and it must be consumed within 2-3 days. In order to ensure the preservation of the contents at least during this time, you should transfer the canned products to glass containers and close them tightly with a lid.
