Gimpab is a delicious Korean dish, a kind of healthy fast food. Gimpab is very similar to Japanese sushi, at least in appearance. But it has a number of differences in the composition of the ingredients. First of all, sushi rice is moistened with sweetened vinegar, and for gimbab, salt and sesame oil are added to the rice. Also, this Korean dish, unlike its Japanese counterpart, is not used with soy sauce. And the main difference is that as a rule, fish is not included in the gimbap.

Ingredients:

  • 180 grams of rice (round grain);
  • 30-40 g crab sticks (optionally, they can be replaced with meat, sausage, or any similar ingredient found in the refrigerator);
  • 3-4 sheets of pressed seaweed (kim or nori);
  • 1 carrot;
  • 1 cucumber;
  • 1 raw egg
  • Sesame oil;
  • vegetable oil (for frying);
  • sesame seeds;
  • black (or red) ground pepper;
  • 30-40 g pickled daikon;
  • salt.

Cooking method

Rinse the rice thoroughly first, preferably a few times. Then leave it in colorant for an hour to make the liquid glass. When the rice dries up, pour it into a saucepan and pour two glasses of water. Cook under a closed lid for 5 minutes, then reduce the heat to a minimum, remove the lid and boil the rice until tender. It should be soft, but not boiled.

While the rice is cooking, cut the crab sticks, cucumber, carrot and daikon into wide, long strips. Salt and pepper the carrots and fry a little in vegetable oil. The cucumber needs to be salted and left for 5-10 minutes to form juice. At the end of this time, the cucumber is wiped off with a paper napkin.

Beat the egg well, add salt. And then pour into the pan and prepare a thin circle of omelet, which, after cooling, should be cut into wide strips. Add sesame oil and sesame seeds to boiled and cooled rice. Salt the dish, and then mix all the ingredients thoroughly.

The bamboo mat should be wrapped with cling film. Put a sheet of algae on it, and spread rice on top of an even layer. Moreover, the layer thickness should be no more than 1 cm. A small strip at the end of the sheet (best of all on its short side) should remain unfilled. Then you should lay out 1-2 pieces. each ingredient: cucumber, omelet, daikon, carrot, crab sticks. They are laid out parallel to the empty strip.

Next, the algae sheet together with the filling must be rolled into a tight roll, starting from the filled side and ending with the free one. This strip not occupied by ingredients should be moistened with water and firmly glued to the roll. Gimpab is ready. It remains only to cut it into small circles.
