Chili con carne is a bean stew flavored primarily with hot chili peppers (as the name suggests). In addition to chili, bacon, minced meat or small pieces of meat, vegetables, herbs, applesauce, beer and even … coffee are added to the dish. Chili can be quite juicy, as in the photo, or drier - in which case it will be served on flatbread. Let's try to cook one of the classic versions of this dish.

We will need:

  • 200 grams of your favorite red beans, soak and boil until tender
  • 150-200 grams of pork. Let's take a neck with a little fat
  • 1 chilli pod (or less hot, optional)
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1 can of goods in its own juice
  • dry basil, finely ground cumin and oregano - a teaspoon each
  • 1 lime
  • salt, a pinch of sugar, vegetable oil

This set of products will allow you to get a non-sharp option. If you prefer a hot, spicy dish, use more chili.

Preparation:

1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan, finely chop the meat, fry it until the liquid evaporates.

2. In another skillet, fry the finely chopped onion, then add the garlic and chili to it. After a couple of minutes, add the chopped spices, mix.

3. Place the meat and onions in a saucepan, where the dish will be stewed. Chop the tomatoes, add to the saucepan. If there is little liquid, add a little broth as well as salt and sugar. Leave the dish to simmer over low heat for about 40 minutes.

4. Add beans and lime juice (to taste, you may not be using all the lime). Simmer for another 20-30 minutes.

5. Serve with herbs, white bread, rice, or tortillas. If you have prepared a very spicy version, put sour cream on the table.
