A pressure cooker is a household appliance in which, due to the increased pressure, food is cooked faster than in conventional pots. Using a pressure cooker is easy enough if you follow a few simple rules.
First of all, read the instructions. Usually you will find manufacturer's recommendations for using a particular pressure cooker model there.
Security measures
In any case, the new appliance must be thoroughly washed and dried. It is best to first boil milk in it (without closing the lid). This will prevent the metal from tarnishing or darkening in the future.
Never put on fire or turn on an empty pressure cooker. It should contain at least a quarter of a liter of water (but it is better to increase this amount to half a liter).
Unfortunately, this appliance cannot be used for high-pressure accelerated frying, since the pressure cooker can only be used for cooking. If you want to fry vegetables in oil, do not close the lid during this process. After frying the vegetables, add all the other desired foods, add water. Then you can put the lid on the pressure cooker and start cooking under pressure.
Never pour liquid into the cooker to the brim, leave room for steam and to build up pressure. It is best to fill no more than two-thirds of the pot with liquid. If you use highly swelling food in your dish, only fill the pressure cooker halfway.
When cooking meat, bring water to a boil with the lid open, remove the foam, only then close the pan.
Details
A regular (non-electric) pressure cooker can only be used on the stovetop. The oven or electric oven is not suitable for pressure cooking.
It does not build to store the dish in the pressure cooker itself, so that stubborn stains from fat, salt or acid do not form on its walls. After cooking, transfer the food to a different saucepan or plastic container.
Please note that steam must escape from the pressure cooker through the valve and not the lid when cooking. If the pressure cooker is poisonous, check that you have installed the lid correctly, that the seal is in place, and that the valve is in order (in some cases, it can become clogged). To fix the problem, remove the pot from the heat (or turn it off if you have an electric pressure cooker) and open the pressure relief valve. The valve can be cleaned with a regular wire or a high pressure water jet.
You can open the pressure cooker when the pressure indicator is at a minimum, if this does not happen, drain the steam manually using the valve.
After finishing cooking, wash and dry the pressure cooker thoroughly. To do this, you can use a good detergent suitable for the material of the pressure cooker. If approved by the manufacturer, you can use a dishwasher. However, the cover and O-ring must be hand washed in any case.
