Nutritionists recommend on hot days to drink primarily non-carbonated mineral water with a large amount of sodium. Fresh fruit and vegetable juices are also recommended (especially tomato juice - an excellent source of potassium, which we lose with sweat) and warm herbal teas.

Alcohol causes the blood vessels to dilate, which automatically increases the stress on the cardiovascular system. The result can be pressure drops and even heart rhythm disturbances. Alcohol also dehydrates the body (especially spirits like vodka, whiskey, cognac, or rum), which can lead to stroke.

The caffeine in coffee has a diuretic effect, disrupting the salt balance. They are flushed out of the body, in particular magnesium and potassium - and a lack of them can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.

The tannin present in tea has a stimulating and diuretic effect. The consequence of drinking a large amount of strong tea is the already mentioned imbalance of electrolytes in the body. Most of the tannin is found in red and black tea.

Energy drinks also contain caffeine - by consuming them, we risk an excessive loss of water, and with it minerals valuable for maintaining homeostasis (balance). In addition, a large amount of sugar in them slows down the absorption of fluids into the body.
