Instant coffee was introduced to the general public seventy-five years ago by a technologist at Nestlé. We can say that Max Morgenthaler only improved the invention of the Japanese Satori Kato, who created the first instant coffee at the end of the nineteenth century, but did not have the opportunity to start industrial production.
Instant coffee myths
Many people prefer instant coffee to coffee beans, hoping that it has less caffeine. This is not entirely true. A cup of brewed coffee contains approximately eighty milligrams of caffeine, and a cup of instant coffee contains approximately sixty milligrams. It should be noted that caffeine can be even less caffeine in coffee beans if brewed very quickly and brought to a boil only once.
Caffeine is a highly controversial substance. It has invigorating properties and also improves mood by increasing blood levels of the happiness hormone serotonin. However, it is these properties that make coffee quite dangerous. After all, if you start to abuse this drink, drinking more than two cups a day, if you refuse coffee or even reduce the dose, the body will suffer, because it will lack a share of vigor, and the level of serotonin will be too low. After refusing coffee, a person may experience withdrawal symptoms - lethargy, drowsiness, deterioration in the speed of reactions, the appearance of headaches. Therefore, it is necessary to give up coffee carefully, gradually reducing the dose. Ideally, giving up coffee should take several months. Such a long period will give the body an opportunity to rebuild.
Instant coffee contains not only caffeine, but also flavors, colors and preservatives. In natural coffee, they either do not exist at all, or a much smaller amount.
The harm of instant coffee
One of the unpleasant effects of instant coffee is an increase in acidity, so it cannot be recommended for people who have problems with the gastrointestinal tract. By increasing the acidity level, instant coffee significantly speeds up digestion. Unfortunately, this does not lead to the desired weight loss, but to the development of cellulite and general lethargy and dullness of the skin.
Instant coffee flushes out many nutrients and vitamins from the body, especially vitamins A and B, calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc and iron. In addition, coffee seriously dehydrates the body.
It can be concluded that instant coffee is not so bad in one-off applications. In a critical situation, it can give vigor and strength, it is especially good after a sleepless night, but the regular use of instant coffee entails a number of negative consequences. Instant coffee can be recommended for hypotensive patients, since the caffeine contained in it raises blood pressure rather quickly, but hypertensive patients should refuse any types of coffee and strong tea, otherwise they may have serious health problems.
