Instructions

Step 1

Pay attention to the color of the fruit. They should be red. The presence of an orange tint is allowed. Black or brown spots should not be present on pomegranates, since their presence indicates the beginning of the process of rotting inside the fruit. The bright and even color of the pomegranates indicates that they were picked from the tree only after they were fully ripe.

Step 2

The surface of the fruit itself should be a little woody, but not necessarily dry, since then the grains will turn out to be rotten or not juicy. Rough skin indicates the ripeness of pomegranates. If you notice that it is smooth to the touch, then know that the fruits were picked even before they had time to ripen. There should be no cracks or cuts on the surface, since they cause air to enter the pomegranates, which leads to their rapid deterioration and drying.

Step 3

The fruit should be tough to the touch, and the skin itself should be thin. Then you can be sure that they were picked recently, they did not lie in warehouses for a long time and did not lose their taste and useful properties. Be sure to pay attention to what kind of tail the fruit has. It should be represented by a small “crown” formed from dried petals, without the presence of yellow or green shoots. Then you can count on the fruits to be juicy and sweet.

Step 4

The quality of pomegranates is indicated by their size. So, the most delicious are those that are heavy and large, since ripe grains increase in size and contain a large amount of juice, which affects the weight of the fruit. The optimal weight is considered to be 400-500 grams. If you buy the best varieties, then one pomegranate should weigh about 600-700 grams.

Step 5

Fresh and ripe fruits are odorless. Its presence only indicates that they were cut for a long time and stored incorrectly. In size, pomegranates should have scarlet, translucent grains, divided into small segments by thin light films. An exception may be special varieties of fruits grown in Turkey. Their seeds are pale pink in color. Moreover, they taste very sweet.
