An unusual dish - onions stuffed with carrots and cheese - can become a wonderful side dish on your festive table. This is an original vegetarian dish that can be consumed by itself.
It is necessary
-
- 16 medium onions
- 300 grams of carrots
- 20 grams of soft cheese
- half lemon
- two cloves of garlic
- 20 grams of flour
- 20 milliliters of olive oil
- salt
- pepper.
Instructions
Step 1
Start by peeling carrots, garlic, and onions. Then carefully cut the carrots into thin, thin strips, and crush the garlic. To do this, you can use a special device - a garlic maker. You will need half a lemon to squeeze the juice out of it, which you must then strain.
Step 2
If you do not have a steamer, then to cook the onions, place a saucepan of pre-drawn water on the fire and bring to a boil. Fasten the cheesecloth over the pan (it is better to do this in advance so as not to burn yourself), and when the water boils, put the onions on the cheesecloth and cover the pan with a lid. You can use a mesh colander that matches the diameter. They should be steamed for fifteen minutes. Then place the onions in a colander (if not already in it) and let the water and juice drain.
Step 3
Very carefully cut off the top of the bulbs and carefully pull out the middle from each of them, for convenience, take a teaspoon. You should have a kind of glass with walls no more than two or three onion leaves thick. Crush the extracted core.
Step 4
Then pour the olive oil into the pan, heat it up and put the garlic, carrots and whatever you removed from the onions in there. This whole mixture should be browned a little. Then pour flour and lemon juice into this mixture, and also add salt and pepper. Mix everything well and simmer the contents of the pan for about fifteen minutes.
Step 5
After the specified time has elapsed, add soft cheese to the cooked vegetables and mix everything again. You need to fill all the onions with the resulting mixture. Send it all to the oven for five minutes. The oven must be preheated to 125-150 ° C. Once the stuffed onions are done, they can be arranged on a large flat platter and brought out to the table. Mayonnaise or sour cream in separate vases are perfect as an addition. You can also sprinkle the onions with very finely chopped herbs on top.
