Herring under a fur coat is an indispensable attribute of festive dishes in most families. This is not only tasty, but also a beautiful and healthy dish. It takes a lot of time to prepare it, but the result is worth it.

It is necessary

    • beets - 700 g;
    • eggs - 6 pcs.;
    • carrots - 500 g;
    • potatoes - 500 g;
    • herring - 700 g;
    • onions - 350 g;
    • mayonnaise - 500 g;
    • ground black pepper;
    • lemon juice.

Step 1

Wash the beets, cut off the tails and, without peeling, put to simmer over medium heat for 1, 5-2 hours.

Step 2

Peel the carrots and cook separately from the beets for 30-40 minutes.

Separately boil eggs and potatoes in their skins until tender.

Step 4

While the vegetables and eggs are cooking, peel the herring. Cut off the head first, remove the entrails, rinse thoroughly and be sure to remove the skin. This is easy to do with a sharp knife. Having cleared the skin of the fish, proceed to another important procedure - the separation of meat from bones. To do this, make a small cut along the ridge and pull it out along with the bones, separating the fish fillets. Remove any remaining large and small bones. Then cut the herring fillets into small pieces.

Cool the cooked vegetables and peel them.

Finely chop the potatoes, onions and eggs. Grate the beets and carrots on a medium grater.

Now start creating your dish. Take a plate and lay out the potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, herring and eggs. Grease each layer (or every second layer) with mayonnaise, pepper and sprinkle with lemon juice. Do not salt, as the fish is already salty. You can alternate layers depending on your taste and imagination. Make at least two levels. The best option is 4 levels.

Fill the top of the salad with mayonnaise and garnish with fresh herbs. Let it brew for several hours and serve.
