Fresh vegetables are available in supermarkets all year round. However, the price and quality of the product is often disappointing in the off-season. Therefore, most far-sighted owners buy vegetables in the fall. But then another question arises: how to properly preserve them at home. A balcony is perfect for this purpose.

It is necessary

  • - wooden boxes for storing vegetables;
  • - ventilated cabinets;
  • - fabric bags;
  • - paper bags;
  • - glass jars;
  • - nets;
  • - sand;
  • - heaters.

Instructions

Step 1

Take a close look at the vegetables you are storing. They must be fresh, without bruising, damage, rot. Microbes multiply actively on damaged vegetables and lead to spoilage of good specimens. Vegetables should not be washed before storing them, otherwise there is a high probability that mold will appear and they will quickly rot. Shake the soil off the fruit, wipe each with a dry rag.

Step 2

Prepare a balcony for storing vegetables. It should be insulated; in winter, the temperature should not drop below zero degrees. Equip wooden boxes for vegetables, special open cabinets on the balcony. The boxes can also be insulated with cotton wool, rags, sawdust, foam. Ventilate the area periodically, but monitor the temperature and humidity. Inspect the stored food regularly. Pick and discard spoiled vegetables.

Step 3

Place potatoes in paper bags, woven bags, or wooden crates. Potatoes can grow moldy in a plastic bag. Make sure that no sunlight falls on the tubers. Poisonous corned beef forms in potatoes when exposed to light, so do not eat green fruits.

Step 4

Arrange the carrots in rows in a wooden box and sprinkle with dry sand. With the onset of frost, cover the box on the balcony with a warm blanket. Also, carrots can be wrapped in paper, stuffed in a glass jar and folded on the balcony. In severe frosts, the jar must be closed with a lid.

Step 5

Place beets, radishes, radishes, and zucchini in a cloth bag or loose-fitting vegetable storage box. These fruits are the easiest to overwinter.

Step 6

Dry the onions and garlic near the battery, and then fold them into a net or nylon stocking. Select medium-sized cabbages for storing cabbage. Also fold them into the netting without breaking off the top leaves, which protect the cabbage from wilting. Then hang the nets with vegetables on the balcony in a ventilated cabinet.
