Cotton candy is one of the most beloved folk delicacies. Children love cotton wool for its sweet taste, lightness and unusual texture. For adults, cotton candy is a fond memory of childhood that will not be forgotten. It is worth taking a bite of this sweetness once - and an adult is transported to the world, where his mother buys him a large white or pink cotton wool, similar to a cloud with an extraordinary taste. This taste cannot be compared or confused with anything. You don't have to go to a park, city or circus to enjoy cotton candy. If you want to immediately revive this fabulous taste in your memory or just please children, then cotton candy can be prepared at home. It is enough to know a few subtleties of making cotton candy at home.
It is necessary
Sugar, vinegar, water, forks, Japanese sticks, saucepan or pan if necessary, the manufacture of the apparatus - sheet of aluminum, plastic, motor, enamel bucket
Instructions
Step 1
First, decide on what you will wind the resulting cotton candy. Consider Japanese sushi sticks, whisks, balloon sticks, thick cocktail tubes, and other moderately thin items. It is important that the cotton candy "holder" is thick enough to hold it. The cotton wool should not outweigh the "holder". Also, the selected item must be safe for children. If you have small children, then forget about forks in this case (but you will need them later for other purposes). The object holder must be securely fixed to the table in an upright position (or you must be sure that you can support the “holder” with heavier objects so that it will not fall).
Step 2
The next step is to prepare the sugar syrup. Before starting work, cover the work surface and nearby surfaces (floor, chairs, tablecloth) with baking paper, newspaper or cling film. It will not be easy to wipe off the frozen sugar drops later. To prepare the base for cotton candy (sugar syrup), you will need half a glass of water, 2 drops of ordinary food vinegar, and a half glasses of sugar. For colored cotton, add a few drops of food coloring. Combine all the ingredients, then place them in a deep skillet or heavy pan. Turn on low heat on the stove and heat the mixture. Stir the future syrup constantly to avoid burning. When the mixture starts to boil, remove it from heat, cool slightly. Then repeat the procedure 4-5 times. The task is to boil the moisture out of the syrup as much as possible. Ideally, the syrup should turn golden brown. If the syrup has darkened strongly, then this indicates its burning. Keep an eye on its color at all times.
Step 3
After making the syrup, proceed to the funnest part of making the cotton candy. Remove children from the room, as hot sugar threads can burn easily. Take a whisk or fork in your hands, dip it in the prepared hot syrup. Think back to the movements of the cotton candy makers from the circus, but do the opposite. Run a whisk or fork around the sticks or other objects fixed on the table (do not dip the sticks into the syrup) until the required air volume appears. In this case, the sticks should be very well fixed on the table in an upright position. The whole procedure should look as if you are winding ordinary threads on 2 knitting needles located at some distance from each other. The first time, the sugar layer may be loose. Crush the sugar strands for a denser consistency. Put the resulting cotton ball on a long stick with which your family and friends can eat the product. Do not be upset if for the first time the delicacy did not turn out beautiful and appetizing. With experience, cotton wool will look like a purchased one.
Step 4
If, after making the cotton candy, you still have frozen pieces of syrup, you can make candy out of them. You just need to split these pieces into smaller pieces.
Step 5
If you are fortunate enough to have a cotton candy maker at home, there are a few things to keep in mind. 1 kg will make 80 servings of cotton candy. Set aside the amount of sugar you need, dissolve it in water (for 1 kg of sugar you need to take 1 liter of water). Boil the syrup for 10 minutes, then add vinegar (3 ml per 1 kg of sugar). Continue simmering the syrup for another 10 minutes. Further, the fire must be reduced. Boil the mixture until thick, for 20-25 minutes. Then turn on the cotton candy maker and slowly pour hot sugar syrup over the edge of the disc. The syrup will harden and you will get cotton candy.
Step 6
Remember to turn off the device before removing the cotton candy from it. Separate the resulting mass from the disc. Cut it in diameter. Next, you need to roll 2 sugar semicircles into tubes. It will be most convenient to do this on a board. Cut the rolled tubes into portions of the desired thickness. Don't forget to clean up your disk. Before preparing the second portion of cotton candy using the machine, the metal disc will also have to be cleaned to avoid sticking of sugar syrup and the formation of even cotton candy.
Step 7
The apparatus for making cotton candy can also be made at home. You will need a motor, plastic for the fence, and a sheet of aluminum. Please note: the motor power must not be less than 50 W. The rotor speed can range from 1250 to 1500 rpm. The base will be a sheet of aluminum. Cut a disc from it with a thickness of 0.2 mm. The diameter of the disc should be 18 cm. Attach the disc to the plastic guard using aluminum rivets. It is not worth using glue in the case of making a device that will come into contact with food. Don't forget the enamelled ladle. A plastic or aluminum bucket will not work in this situation.
