Potatoes: harm or benefit to the human body?

Why are potatoes harmful?

Scientists have found that 100 grams of potatoes provides about 70-80 calories, most of which come from carbohydrates (more precisely, starch). Potatoes contain 1.5 to 3 grams of dietary fiber. The large amount of carbohydrates in potatoes is falsely considered by many to be a threat of excess weight.

But this is a mistake, since starch itself does not harm the figure at all. Only in combination with fats does it begin to transform and cause harm (the same applies to food such as rice or noodles). The protein contained in potatoes is not particularly useful due to the lack of amino acids, but it has a relatively high biological value.

Thus, potatoes can be harmful only in one case - if you eat them at the same time as fats (fatty meat, lard, etc.)

What is good for eating potatoes?

It is useful to combine potatoes with other foods, such as vegetables and lean meats. This is not only an excellent dietary food, but also a real treasure trove of vitamins and minerals. Potatoes provide a relatively large amount of vitamins B1, B5, B6, PP, C. It is also a source of minerals: potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, copper, manganese and zinc. The beneficial properties of potatoes include the fact that they:

  • helps to lower blood pressure,
  • regulates the digestive system and intestines in particular,
  • helps to remove excess water from the body,
  • improves skin condition,
  • improves blood clotting,
