An ancient drink common among the Eastern Slavs, which includes water, honey and spices, is called sbiten. There is a distinction between hot and cold sbiten: a cold drink will help you quench your thirst on a hot day, while hot sbiten has a warming and anti-inflammatory effect.

It is necessary

  • - honey - 4 tbsp. l.;
  • - dried mint - 0.5 tbsp. l.;
  • - spices - 1 tbsp. l. (cloves, cinnamon, chamomile flowers, ginger, cardamom and others according to your taste).

Instructions

Step 1

At the moment, there are many recipes for making sbitn with herbs, spices, cherries and currants. Sometimes they also add such an unusual ingredient as horseradish, but the classic components of any sbitn are water and honey.

Step 2

Combine chamomile and mint in a small bowl. In the meantime, boil water (it is best to use spring or spring water). If the water is very soft, the drink will get a special taste. Instead of these herbs, you can use various spices: cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and ginger in any combination and in different proportions. Sbiten, made with these spices and herbs, will help prevent colds.

Step 3

Pour the prepared herbs with boiling water, and then leave for 1 hour so that the sbiten can brew. After 1 hour, strain the resulting broth using a sieve or ordinary gauze, then heat a little and add honey. The sbiten should be stirred well to dissolve the honey.

Step 4

Remember that when honey dissolves, you do not need to heat the water too much, otherwise the honey will lose all its beneficial substances and the drink will simply become a sweet mass.

Step 5

Hot sbiten must be poured into cups and served. Sbiten is able to improve well-being, warm, and also give vigor much more than tea or coffee.

Step 6

All kinds of sweet delicacies, for example, dried fruits and candied fruits, nuts, preserves, jam, jam or gingerbread, can be an excellent addition to such a drink as sbiten.
